Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur, co-founders of Razorpay, have been named India’s youngest billionaires at 34 years old, with a net worth of ₹8,643 crore each, according to the Hurun Global Rich List 2025. Razorpay, founded in 2014 in Bangalore, Karnataka, is a leading fintech company that simplifies online payments for businesses.


Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur, co-founders of Bangalore-based fintech company Razorpay, have been recognized as India’s youngest billionaires in the Hurun Global Rich List 2025. At 34 years old, both entrepreneurs have a net worth of ₹8,643 crore each, making them the youngest billionaires in the country this year.

Razorpay’s Growth Story

Founded in 2014, Razorpay provides digital payment solutions to businesses, streamlining transactions through its payment gateway. The company has attracted major investors, including GIC, Sequoia, Ribbit Capital, Tiger Global Management, Matrix Partners India, and Y Combinator. By the end of 2021, Razorpay secured $375 million in Series-F funding at a valuation of $7.5 billion.

From IIT Roorkee to Billionaire Status

Kumar and Mathur met as students at IIT Roorkee before launching Razorpay. Before their entrepreneurial journey, Kumar worked as a software development engineer at Microsoft, while Mathur was a Wireline Field Engineer at Schlumberger. Their motivation to start Razorpay stemmed from challenges in India’s online payment ecosystem, which they sought to address with their platform.

India’s Billionaire Growth Trends

The number of billionaires in India has fluctuated over the past decade, with a peak of 271 in 2024 and 284 in 2025, showing a strong recovery. Anas Rahman Junaid, Founder and Chief Researcher of Hurun India, highlighted that “62% of Indian billionaires have seen their wealth increase, signaling positive economic trends.”

Global Comparison

In comparison, China’s youngest billionaire in 2025, Wang Zelong, aged 29, has the same net worth of ₹8,643 crore. However, India’s billionaire count has demonstrated steady growth, surpassing the trillion-dollar wealth milestone.
