BSNL partners with global tech leaders to advance India’s 5G, AI, and digital skills training, establishing multiple Centres of Excellence at BRBRAITT to boost telecom talent and innovation.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has entered into strategic partnerships with Ericsson India, Qualcomm Technologies, Cisco Systems, and Nokia Solutions and Networks India to launch advanced skilling programs in 5G, artificial intelligence, machine learning, networking, and other digital technologies at its apex training institute, Bharat Ratna Bhim Rao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training (BRBRAITT), Jabalpur.

Under its collaboration with Ericsson India, a 5G Centre of Excellence will be established at BRBRAITT, delivering hands-on training and online learning through the Ericsson Educate Program for over 2,000 students annually. BSNL will provide classroom facilities, while Ericsson contributes global-standard curriculum, trainers, and lab infrastructure.

Nokia Solutions and Networks India will establish a 5G Centre of Excellence and AI/ML Lab at BRBRAITT to train 300 students annually in 5G radio, core networks, and AI/ML applications. A joint Nokia–BRBRAITT certification program, supported by the Telecom Sector Skill Council, will further strengthen telecom industry readiness.

Industry analysts note that these initiatives align with India’s broader digital transformation agenda, enhancing the talent pipeline for next-generation telecom technologies. They also position BSNL as a key enabler of the Department of Telecommunications’ vision to develop a Telecom Innovation, Research, and Training Centre at BRBRAITT, aimed at fostering R&D, product innovation, and entrepreneurship. This collaboration supports the Skill India and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions, ensuring India remains competitive in the global telecom ecosystem while accelerating the deployment of advanced network infrastructure.

The contract was secured through STL’s demerged Global Services business, STL Networks.

Sterlite Technologies Ltd. (STL), a Pune-based manufacturer and integrator of optical fiber solutions, saw its shares rise sharply by 15.2% to ₹88.7 on the Bombay Stock Exchange after securing a ₹2,631.14 crore telecom project from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

In a regulatory filing made on June 11, STL announced that the contract was awarded through its demerged Global Services unit, STL Networks, in consortium with infrastructure major Dilip Buildcon. The project falls under the BharatNet initiative and will cover the design, supply, installation, upgradation, and maintenance of the middle-mile telecom network across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh telecom circles.

BharatNet is the Government of India’s flagship rural broadband connectivity project aimed at bridging the digital divide. This new contract aligns with STL’s broader strategy of enabling digital infrastructure across underserved regions.

The announcement marked a significant moment for Sterlite Technologies on the stock market, pushing the share price to its highest level in the last four weeks. The company stated that the project reinforces its deep capabilities in executing complex, large-scale digital infrastructure projects in challenging terrains.

While Dilip Buildcon’s role in the consortium was not detailed in the exchange filing, STL emphasized that the middle-mile network will be vital in enabling high-speed broadband services to rural and remote areas of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

India’s state-run telecom company BSNL reports ₹280 crore profit in Q4 2025, marking its second consecutive quarterly profit after 18 years, signaling a strong revival in the telecom sector.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India’s state-run telecom company headquartered in New Delhi, reported a net profit of ₹280 crore for the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2025. This marks BSNL’s second straight quarterly profit in 18 years, a significant turnaround for the company that had been struggling with heavy losses for nearly two decades.

BSNL, a government-owned telecommunications provider operating across India, including major states like Delhi and Maharashtra, has been pivotal in expanding telecom infrastructure in the country. The firm’s latest results indicate a strong recovery with the net loss for fiscal year 2025 reduced to ₹2,247 crore from ₹5,370 crore in the previous year.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the financial results, highlighting that for the first time since 2007, BSNL posted back-to-back net profits on a quarterly basis. The company recorded a ₹262 crore net profit in the previous quarter (Q3 FY25).

The company’s operating revenue increased by 7.8 percent to ₹20,841 crore for FY25 compared to ₹19,330 crore in FY24, driven by growth in key segments such as Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), customer mobility, and enterprise services. Total revenue for FY25 rose nearly 10 percent to ₹23,400 crore despite the company’s largest ever capital expenditure of ₹24,432 crore.

BSNL’s mobility revenue rose 6 percent to ₹7,499 crore, FTTH revenue increased by 10 percent to ₹2,923 crore, and leased line and enterprise segment revenue grew by 3.5 percent to ₹4,096 crore. The company has also deployed 93,450 towers for 4G services, with ongoing synchronization efforts underway. Asset monetization efforts yielded ₹1,120 crore, a 77 percent increase in FY25.

BSNL Chairman and Managing Director A Robert J Ravi attributed the sharp turnaround to professional management, government support, and disciplined cost control. He expressed confidence in maintaining growth momentum with accelerated 4G/5G deployment and delivering affordable, quality connectivity across India.

We will not be chasing profits as our end goal. We will be redefining telecom excellence in public service. Profits will naturally follow as a byproduct of providing excellent service, reaching the unreached, and innovating for inclusivity.”

Robert J Ravi, BSNL Chairman and Managing Director
