India and the Maldives are set to review their comprehensive economic and maritime security partnership on 27 May 2025 in New Delhi. Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel, currently on a three-day visit, will meet with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to assess the implementation of the bilateral vision document signed in October 2024. The meeting aims to strengthen cooperation amid regional security challenges and recent diplomatic tensions.

The review follows a strategic agreement signed in October 2024, aimed at deepening cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, maritime security, and regional stability in the Indian Ocean. The discussions will also assess the execution of the vision document that underpins the bilateral roadmap.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India’s government body responsible for foreign relations, has played a pivotal role in maintaining diplomatic engagement with the Maldives despite some recent political strains. Abdulla Khaleel’s ongoing visit marks his third official trip to India in 2025, underscoring the significance of India-Maldives ties.
Khaleel is accompanied by a high-level delegation and is expected to discuss ongoing projects, investment opportunities, and mechanisms to boost maritime surveillance and cooperation. India’s support for infrastructure development and capacity-building in the Maldives also remains a central agenda.
The renewed engagement comes at a critical time, as both nations seek to reinforce their strategic alignment in the Indian Ocean region amid broader geopolitical developments.
