Elon Musk’s Starlink, a satellite internet venture under SpaceX, is gearing up to launch its services in India with an expected pricing of ₹3,000 per month and a ₹33,000 setup cost. The company recently secured a crucial license from the Indian Ministry of Telecommunications.
Elon Musk’s satellite communication firm Starlink is inching closer to launching its commercial satellite internet services in India. As per industry sources, the company plans to offer unlimited data at ₹3,000 per month with a one-time equipment cost of ₹33,000.
Starlink, a division of SpaceX, is already operational in over 100 countries and provides high-speed internet access via satellite. Its Indian entry is now formalized following the acquisition of a key license from the Ministry of Telecommunications on June 6.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) confirmed that Starlink is expected to roll out operations within the next 12 months. The service aims to provide bandwidth between 600 to 700 Gbps, meeting the growing internet demands across rural and remote areas in India.
This makes Starlink the third satellite internet provider licensed in India, after Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite Communications. Another player, Amazon’s Project Kuiper, is still awaiting clearance.
Starlink offers two residential plans globally—Residential Lite for minimal data usage, and a full Residential plan for households with higher bandwidth needs. It’s unclear if these distinctions will apply in India, where the company is expected to start with a flat-rate model for early subscribers.
The Elon Musk-led venture has also reportedly signed agreements with Indian telecom giants Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to facilitate its rollout—both of whom control a combined 70% of India’s telecom market share.
Starlink’s entry could reshape India’s internet infrastructure, especially in underserved regions where traditional broadband services have limitations.
