Vietnam’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, VinFast, has officially entered the Indian market by opening its first showroom in Surat, Gujarat. This move comes just days after Tesla’s debut in India and ahead of VinFast’s upcoming EV manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. With plans to establish 35 dealerships across 27+ cities by the end of the year, VinFast aims to expand aggressively in India’s fast-growing EV ecosystem.

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has officially marked its entry into the Indian market with the launch of its first showroom in Surat, Gujarat. This strategic move precedes the inauguration of its proposed EV manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and signals the company’s aggressive plans for growth in one of the world’s fastest-evolving electric mobility markets.

The showroom in Surat will feature the right-hand drive variants of the VF 6 and VF 7 SUVs—specifically developed for India—offering a localized approach in design and functionality. These models are now open for pre-booking, indicating the company’s readiness to tap into India’s rising demand for premium electric vehicles.

According to company sources, VinFast’s strategy includes launching 35 dealerships by the end of 2025, spanning over 27 Indian cities. This expansion aligns with India’s national objective to boost electric vehicle adoption and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Financial analysts view this entry as a highly calculated market capture effort. India’s EV penetration is expected to reach double digits within the decade, driven by regulatory support, falling battery prices, and consumer shifts toward sustainability. VinFast’s choice of Tamil Nadu for its upcoming plant reflects the state’s EV-friendly industrial policy and strong logistics infrastructure.

By establishing a physical presence in India before rolling out production, VinFast demonstrates a long-term commitment to localizing its operations. This dual-track approach—dealership network first, followed by local manufacturing—is expected to optimize early brand recognition and consumer trust.

VinFast’s timing coincides with increased activity in India’s EV space, where early-mover advantage and price sensitivity are key factors. As India’s automotive sector undergoes a transformative shift, VinFast’s expansion could reshape competitive dynamics—especially in the mid-size SUV segment, where demand is outpacing supply.

With the Indian EV market heating up, VinFast’s entry adds a fresh dimension to the global race for market share. The focus will now shift to how effectively the company scales its operations and meets India’s unique consumer and regulatory demands.
