India-based Asian Paints reported a 6% year-on-year decline in Q1FY26 net profit, causing a 1% intraday drop in its share price. Despite flat revenue, the company showed a sharp recovery on a sequential basis, with PAT rising 59% quarter-on-quarter, reflecting signs of operational efficiency and recovery in demand. The stock now poses a mixed outlook for investors amid evolving market conditions.

Shares of Asian Paints slipped by 1% on July 31 to ₹2,376 on the BSE after the company reported a 6% year-on-year decline in net profit for the first quarter of FY26. The profit after tax stood at ₹1,100 crore, compared to ₹1,170 crore in the same period last year.

Despite this YoY contraction, quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) figures revealed a sharp recovery in profitability. The company reported a 59% jump in PAT compared to ₹692 crore in Q4FY25. Additionally, revenue rose by 7% sequentially from ₹8,330 crore in the previous quarter to ₹8,924 crore in Q1FY26.

From a revenue perspective, the year-on-year performance remained flat, declining marginally by 0.20%. This indicates near-term challenges in topline growth despite stable market demand.

Industry analysts attribute the sequential improvement to operational efficiencies, input cost management, and normalization of margins. However, the yearly contraction in earnings has brought short-term pressure on the stock.
