Persona, a California-based verified identity platform, has successfully secured a $200 million Series D funding round, raising its valuation to $2 billion. The funding was co-led by Founders Fund and Ribbit Capital, with participation from existing investors such as BOND, Coatue, Chemistry, First Round Capital, and Index Ventures. This latest round of investment follows Persona’s $150 million Series C round in 2021, which valued the company at $1.5 billion.

Founded in 2018 by Rick Song, Persona offers a comprehensive identity infrastructure that helps businesses across various industries—including social platforms, travel, and financial institutions—automate identity-related tasks. These tasks include user onboarding, managing risks like money laundering, and staying compliant with shifting regulatory requirements.

Persona has experienced significant growth, doubling its customer base in the past year. Notable clients include OpenAI, Lime, and Heritage Bank. The company has expanded its service offerings, particularly in workforce identity security and international Know Your Business (KYB) capabilities.

The company aims to utilize its latest funding to create a “verified identity layer,” a secure infrastructure that helps businesses verify users while adapting to changing regulations and risk models. For individuals, this solution will offer a “reusable identity,” eliminating the need for repeated entry of sensitive information and enhancing the overall user experience.

With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI) agents and increasing technological advancements, Persona is strategically positioning itself as a leader in identity verification and security, both for businesses and individuals.
