The Indian government has announced a new FASTag-based Annual Pass for private vehicles, priced at ₹3,000, to allow up to 200 highway trips. Launching on August 15, 2025, this pass is aimed at streamlining toll payments and reducing congestion across the national highway network.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), under the Government of India, has introduced a new FASTag-based Annual Pass that will allow private vehicles to undertake 200 highway journeys for a fixed price of ₹3,000 per year. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the scheme, which is scheduled to roll out nationwide on August 15, 2025.

MoRTH is the key policy-making body responsible for national highways, transport development, and digital infrastructure implementation. Its FASTag initiative, powered by RFID technology, has been central to digitising toll collection and reducing wait times at toll booths.

This new Annual FASTag Pass is applicable for private vehicles including cars, jeeps, and vans. It is expected to eliminate the need for repeated toll payments, thereby promoting seamless vehicular movement across the national highway grid.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, the government said the move would significantly reduce congestion at toll plazas, improve traffic flow, and curb toll-related disputes. The uniform access plan is also part of the larger push to digitalise road usage services under India’s broader infrastructure development goals.

The ₹3,000 pass will be issued through FASTag and will be integrated into the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) system, allowing drivers to make up to 200 toll-free trips annually. After 200 trips, regular toll charges will apply.

Gadkari noted that this initiative aligns with the government’s mission of enhancing road user convenience and improving overall travel efficiency.

The FASTag system is managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in collaboration with partner banks and digital payment providers. This annual pass will be accessible via authorized bank channels, including SBI, ICICI Bank, and others who issue FASTags.

India has over 1.73 crore FASTag users as of 2025, and this latest announcement is expected to boost adoption, especially among regular highway commuters.
