McDonald’s Corporation, the world’s leading fast-food chain headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, announced on May 13, 2025, its plan to hire up to 375,000 new workers across the United States during the summer. This recruitment push marks the company’s largest hiring spree in recent years, aimed at handling higher customer volumes during warmer months and supporting its long-term expansion goals.

As of now, McDonald’s operates over 13,500 restaurants in the US, with approximately 95% run by franchisees, who independently manage staffing and wages. The chain currently employs nearly 800,000 people nationwide.

This hiring campaign comes on the heels of a sluggish first quarter, with company executives citing ongoing economic strain on consumers. However, McDonald’s is seeing signs of improvement, including a boost in April sales, partially driven by a limited-edition Minecraft-themed meal.

Notably, the jobs being offered are not seasonal or temporary, reflecting McDonald’s strategy to invest in long-term workforce development. The company reaffirmed its commitment to upskilling employees through its Archways to Opportunity program, which provides educational assistance and training. Over 90,000 individuals have benefited from the program since its inception a decade ago.

The announcement was made alongside US Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who praised the initiative for aligning with President Donald Trump’s national workforce goals, including a target of one million active apprentices across industries.

McDonald’s previously shared plans to open 900 new US locations by 2027, which this hiring spree is expected to support. With the restaurant industry now employing over 12.3 million people, this move by McDonald’s is set to further revitalize the post-pandemic labor market.
