This capital infusion aims to support business growth, expand the bank’s client base, and enhance financial services across sectors. The latest investment follows a previous ₹3,000 crore (£300 million) infusion in 2021, bringing Barclays India’s total invested capital to over ₹12,400 crore (£1,100 million).

Barclays, which provides banking and investment solutions to corporates, financial sponsors, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs), stated that the new investment will help deepen its engagement across key financial sectors. This move follows a previous ₹3,000 crore (£300 million) investment in 2021. With the latest capital infusion, Barclays’ total invested capital in India now exceeds ₹12,400 crore (£1,100 million).

Financial Position of Barclays India
According to India Ratings, Barclays India maintained a capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of 15.93% as of March 2024 (FY24), exceeding the minimum Tier-1 capital requirement of 11% under Basel III guidelines. The bank’s total assets in India stood at ₹53,910 crore at the end of FY24.
A significant portion of Barclays India’s lending portfolio comprises:
- Term loans (49.2%)
- Bill discounting (35%)
- Working capital loans (15.8%)
